Washington, D.C. –This week, Rep. Torres Small returned to DC to vote on policing reform legislation as well as to continue her work on the NDAA. Washington, D.C. –Congresswoman Torres Small (NM-02) issued the following statement after the House passed the Justice in Policing Act last night with a bipartisan vote of 236-181. The legislation aims to reform public safety measures and foster working relationships between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve.
Torres Small Leads Bipartisan Letter to Create Local Jobs, Plug Orphaned Wells Amidst COVID-19 Economic Recovery – Press Release (June 22, 2020)
Las Cruces, NM –On Friday, Congresswoman Xochitl Torres Small (D-NM) alongside Assistant Speaker Ben Ray Luján (D-NM), Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (R-PA), and Mike Kelly (R-PA) led a bipartisan group of members urging House leadership to set aside funds to plug orphan wells as part of COVID-19 economic recovery plans. This funding could be used by states and Tribes to plug orphan and abandoned wells, helping create jobs in areas across the country hit hard by the sudden change in oil and gas demand.
Torres Small Recognized with “Spirit of Enterprise” Award for Pro-Business Efforts – Press Release (June 24, 2020)
Washington, D.C. –This week, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce recognized Congresswoman Xochitl Torres Small (NM-02) for her pro-economic growth stances with the “Spirit of Enterprise” Award. The Spirit of Enterprise Award is given annually to Members of Congress based on rankings the U.S. Chamber of Commerce gives for key pro-free enterprise, pro-economic growth, and pro-jobs votes. In addition to the national distinction, Torres Small also ranked as the most bipartisan member of the New Mexico congressional delegation according to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s latest legislative scorecard for the 116th Congress.
Torres Small Returns to DC to Kick Off Annual Defense Bill Process – Press Release (June 24, 2020)
Washington, D.C. –This week, Congresswoman Xochitl Torres Small returned to Washington, D.C. to begin the House Armed Services subcommittee markups of the FY2021 National Defense Authorization Act. The Members of the Tactical Air and Land and Readiness Subcommittees met during the hybrid hearings to review the annual defense bill.
