Las Cruces, N.M. – This week, Rep. Torres Small continued working with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to introduce legislation to support rural healthcare and ensure New Mexico has the federal resources it needs to recover and rebuild. Check out some of the highlights from her week below. 

Torres Small Continues to Champion Rural Health Care, Leads Effort to Strengthen Telemedicine in New Mexico -- Press Release (June 11, 2020)

Las Cruces, NM–Today, Reps. Xochitl Torres Small (D-NM) and Dan Newhouse (R-WA) introduced the Increasing Rural Health Access During the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency Act, a bipartisan bill that would invest $50 million in rural communities to increase access to telehealth during the COVID-19 pandemic. Senators McSally (R-AZ)  and Jones (D-AL) introduced companion legislation in the Senate.

ICYMI: Torres Small Returns to Washington to Ensure DoD Readiness During COVID-19 -- Press Release (June 11, 2020)

Washington, D.C.  – Earlier this week, Congresswoman Xochitl Torres Small returned to Washington, D.C. for yesterday’s House Armed Services Committee hearing on the Department of Defense’s response efforts during COVID-19. The Members heard from Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment, Ellen Lord regarding the Department’s efforts to respond to challenges from COVID-19 and meet readiness needs, including Defense Industrial Base challenges, contribution to interagency, and use of existing acquisition authorities like the Defense Production Act.

Udall, Heinrich, Torres Small Applaud Over $5 Million in Grants to Upgrade Water Infrastructure and Waste Systems in Anthony, Chamberino -- Press Release (June 9, 2020)

Las Cruces, NM – Today, U.S. Senators Tom Udall (D-N.M.) and Martin Henrich (D-N.M.) and U.S. Representative Xochitl Torres Small (D-N.M.) announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development investment has awarded over $5 million in grants for critical water infrastructure and waste system projects in Anthony and Chamberino.
