Torres Small Week in Review
Las Cruces, N.M. – This week Rep. Torres Small continued her bipartisan efforts working across the aisle to deliver relief for New Mexico. Following last week’s introduction of the Farmers Feeding Families Coronavirus Response Act, Torres Small introduced the bipartisan Health Care Protection Act, which would provide federal support to Americans who have lost their job to afford their health insurance through COBRA.
Meanwhile, Torres Small continued to engage with local businesses across New Mexico to ensure access to PPP and EIDL relief programs for many small businesses in search of support. As part of these efforts, Torres Small met virtually with small lenders and community banks on Wednesday.
On the policy front, Torres Small raised concerns about USPS, water infrastructure, and public lands:
- Supported efforts calling on House leadership to include funding for USPS in the next COVID package.
- Fought for the inclusion of full and permanent funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which has passed previously with bipartisan support, in the next COVID-19 package.
- Advocated for the inclusion of water infrastructure, conservation, delivery, and Bureau of Reclamation in any upcoming House infrastructure legislation.
Torres Small also continued to monitor delivery of federal relief to central and southern New Mexico and was pleased to announce the following amounts have been released this week:
- $6.6 Million in grants to 16 community health centers for COVID-19 relief and testing
- $77 Million for COVID-19 testing and contact tracing
- $5.5 Million in housing assistance grants
