Torres Small Statement on SCOTUS DACA Decision

Las Cruces, N.M.–Today, Congresswoman Xochitl Torres Small (NM-02) issued the following statement after the Supreme Court ruled in a 5-4 decision to uphold the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which protects nearly 6,000 New Mexicans from deportation:

“Today’s SCOTUS decision is a win for all of us—for DREAMers, for families, for our communities, and for our country.  Together, we’re taking a significant step towards a clearer and fairer immigration system that makes our nation stronger.  DACA recipients are small business owners, veterans, and first responders.  Right now, tens of thousands of DACA recipients are part of our essential workforce, fighting to stop the spread of COVID-19. Today’s decision means that these essential members of our community are protected and will remain part of the fabric of our community as we work together to reopen and rebuild during COVID-19.”
