Torres Small Continues Virtual Outreach, Hosts Roundtable with Local Law Enforcement
Las Cruces, NM – Today, Rep. Xochitl Torres Small (D-NM) hosted a virtual roundtable with local law enforcement officers to discuss the unprecedented challenges they are facing on the front lines. Participating on the call were representatives from the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office, and the city police departments serving Las Cruces, Sunland Park, and Anthony. During the conversation, they outlined the ways law enforcement is adjusting its operations to keep themselves and our communities safe, particularly as New Mexico begins to reopen.
“As the granddaughter of a Las Cruces police officer, I understand our law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every single day to protect their communities. Over the past few months, they’ve faced a new and unprecedented challenge, and have gone above and beyond in their service to New Mexico as they keep our most vulnerable populations safe from harm. That’s why I have continuously fought for bipartisan solutions to secure funding for our state and local governments that would provide our officers with the resources they need, including personal protective equipment,” said Torres Small.
“I am so grateful for the selflessness and courage these officers have shown in this time of great difficulty for so many New Mexicans. I am committed to continuing to work with law enforcement officers across the state to best serve our communities as we continue to respond to COVID-19 together.”
