Torres Small Announces $50,000 for Business Development in Lovington
Las Cruces, NM – Today, U.S. Representative Xochitl Torres Small (D-N.M.) announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development program has awarded $50,000 to support economic growth in Lovington, New Mexico through the Local Innovators Institute, which helps train and prepare entrepreneurs in the food industry. Additionally, this grant will be used to conduct a study evaluating the opportunities to create and sustain micro-distilleries or micro-breweries in the area.
“Our local restaurants are the backbone of our communities, creating opportunities for jobs as well as sharing culture and bringing joy through food. As we continue to respond to the unique challenges COVID-19 created for our local eateries, and it’s critical we work creatively and together towards recovery. Lovington’s downtown is ripe for opportunities as we rebuild, and I’m proud to share this investment which will support innovators who want to share food, serve, and employ our community,” said Torres Small.
The Rural Business Development Grant Program promotes economic development by providing technical assistance and training for small rural businesses with less than 50 new workers and less than $1 million in gross revenue.
